We are exactly one month from the wedding, and as I wrap up the very final details of our trip back to the United Kingdom I have also begun to plan our next big adventure - our honeymoon!
As much as Brent would love the opportunity to sink his toes in the sand with his Kindle and a cold mezcal margarita in hand, I had managed to convince him to take yet another 14-hour flight over to Asia for our honeymoon. The beach can wait - we've got new territory to explore.
Well, some new, but also some familiar.
We frequently reminisce about our unforgettable trip to South Korea in 2022. It feels like it was just yesterday that Brent was skeptically eyeing my carefully coordinated itinerary, wondering if the land of kimchi and K-pop could actually win him over. And if you have read my prior entries from that trip, you know that it was within hours of arriving in Seoul that he was already mentally planning the next trip back.
As we wandered through the vibrant and neon-lit streets of Myeongdong, explored the historic palaces of Gyeongbokgung and scouted views of the city from N Seoul Tower, I could practically feel his love for Seoul building. By the time that we were indulging in spicy tteokbokki, crispy fried chicken and cold beer at his favorite BHC (Beer House Chicken), I knew that he was hooked. South Korea had worked its magic just as I had anticipated, and there was no turning back.
Fast forward to today and we are now eagerly planning our return to Seoul for our honeymoon. But South Korea won't be the only location on our itinerary, because this time around we will be adding Japan to our list of countries to explore. Hopeful to plan our trip around blooming cherry blossoms, we just simply couldn't resist the opportunity. With it just being a quick flight over - how could we not?!
I will admit, planning this trip has been a bit more overwhelming than I had initially anticipated. Although we feel comfortable navigating the streets of Seoul, coordinating our adventures around Japan has proved a bit more challenging thus far.
When we visited South Korea we primarily stayed in one major city, only venturing out for a day on a guided tour. As it stands, I have already added Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka to our list of must-visit cities in Japan. More cities to explore, much more research to do.
We have watched TikTok after TikTok video, scrolled through travel forums, and flipped through photos of our friend Alex's trips to the country to fuel our excitement in planning our unguided, semi-chaotic, multi-city trip to Japan. From slurping ramen and tasting fresh hand-rolled sushi at the best local restaurants to marveling at the serene beauty of Kyoto's temples, we know that every moment promises to be a worthwhile adventure.
So here is to new adventures - exploring both familiar and unfamiliar streets, and to falling in love with yet another corner of this beautiful world.
Get ready South Korea and Japan, because in 2025 we are coming armed with open minds and empty stomachs!
