Most of my England bucket list is food-related. What can I say, I love a good snack.
Of course I had to add a true full English breakfast to my list for this trip. Brent has made me English breakfast many times before, so this is not something new to me necessarily. Since the very beginning of our relationship, he has spoiled me with tasty hash browns, eggs, beans, bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, and buttery toast (sometimes we switch it up and add potato scones). No sugary cereal for me, I prefer a savory breakfast. We decided it was only right that I try my first proper 'brekkie' at Wetherspoon, a classic English pub. This location, Paramount in Manchester, is particularly meaningful for Brent because it was a pub he frequented often when he was a 'young lad' living in the city.I may have cheated a little, as I ended up getting the vegetarian sausage links. Faux sausage aside, the breakfast was everything I had hoped for. Each bite incorporated a bit of everything on the plate. The yolks ran with the beans, the bacon grease soaked into the already butter-smothered toast, and the grilled tomato added a light sharpness to it all. A well-rounded meal, rounder than my stomach as I nearly waddled out of the pub. This isn't a one-and-done bucket list item. We will be eating plenty of full English (and Scottish) breakfasts in the morning during our trip. Brent asked if I would get tired of eating English brekkie every day and I could only laugh.
Maybe, just maybe he can convince me to grab Gregg's and a sausage roll in the morning instead. To be determined...
