Seoul, Part 4: Locks of Love at N Seoul Tower

Throughout N Seoul Tower, you'll find not only dozens of families and tourists, but many couples in matching attire.

With Seoul known as the city for couples, these padlocks are an iconic symbol of Seoul and everlasting love. Thousands of couples have flocked to Namsan Tower to decorate and secure their lock on the tower railing and fencing, hoping to secure an eternal love through this gesture that true love cannot be broken. Since literally throwing the keys off the balcony of the tower isn't the best for the environment, you can find a cute little key box to place your key in.

Pay careful attention to how I said 'hoping' to secure forever-lasting love, as unfortunately these locks don't always bring luck to every couple. Such was the case for Kassie Yeung, who returned to Seoul from California in 2021 to remove a love lock she and her ex-partner had placed on the Love Bridge of the tower in 2019.

Among the couples' locks, you'll also certainly find plenty of locks between friends and family. So grab your bestie and head to Korea!

And if you do decide to head to the tower with your boo, make sure you give them a big kiss and tell them “Saranghaeyo!” (사랑해요), which means I love you in Korean.
